My first piece of jewelry that I created using a stone in it’s design. This is also my first necklace piece and the first piece I have made to utilizing the machine lathe process. This piece is meant to celebrate denim as a material, the workers clothing material. Sewn patches of denim make up the most of the necklace. Accent pieces of bronze also give the piece a rough look. Even the machine lathe process is something I associate with Blue collar workers. The red stone is a piece of Swanton Marble I obtained during my internship in Vermont at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in West Rutland, VT. The stone is my favorite material obtained from there because of it’s coloration patterns. I have been collecting stones since a very early age and now want to start utilizing them in my work. Stones help to add a preciousness to materials and pieces that otherwise would not have it.
